Today in Our Idiot Brother Marketing: Paul Rudd Loves Fantasy Football
On the heels of that very-funny Funny or Die video featuring Paul Rudd and Harvey Weinstein discussing marketing strategies for Our Idiot Brother, comes Rudd revealing his secret shame on the cover of the latest edition of The Hollywood Reporter. Unlike some other celebs, however, his addiction is slightly less scandalous; like millions of Americans — and other Hollywood stars like Ashton Kutcher — Rudd plays fantasy football. “It’s just so super nerdy. It sucks,” the Our Idiot Brother star told the trade magazine. “I wish I didn’t like it as much as I do. It’s a sickness.” Rudd — who participated in one of the more memorable onscreen documentations of grown men playing fantasy sports in Knocked Up (with help from Paul Feig) — compares the billion dollar industry to another nerd-tastic game. “I’ve never played Dungeons & Dragons, but essentially I am now as a grown man,” he said. “When you associate it with sports, it seems like, ‘Oh, it’s cooler because it’s sports.’ But it’s not. And anybody who doesn’t play it has absolutely the right attitude about it, which is, ‘You guys are lame.’ But it’s so fun, it sucks you in.” It sure does! (Question to the crowd: Would you keep Tom Brady or Jahvid Best for this season? I’m asking for a friend! Ahem.) No word as to whether Rudd’s titular dullard likes fantasy sports in Our Idiot Brother, but you can apparently expect his character in Judd Apatow’s untitled Knocked Up spin-off to still manage a team. Hopefully he knows better than to draft Carlos Delgado. After all, he retired. · What Fantasy Football Means to Hollywood [THR]

Fraser Leads Avoid The World
He's area of the new 'toon.... Even though their last stab at animation with fairytale follow up Hoodwinked Too did not exactly see money moving into the organization coffers, the Weinstein Company is not letting that discourage their efforts to contend with the kind of Pixar and DreamWorks, announcing the most recent title within their toolbox as Avoid The World. And they have snapped up up a high profile cast the same shape as Brendan Fraser, Take advantage of Corddry, Nicole Kidman and much more. We are brought to the earth Baab, where dwells a race of blue-skinned aliens (let us hope they are not attempting to catch onto the Avatar bandwagon a couple of years late, shall we?) The hero from the planet is astronaut Scorch Supernova (Fraser) a daring, square-jawed type who specialises in harmful rescues and assorted spectacular achievements by using quieter, nerdier brother Gary (Corddry). However their boss as BASA, Lena (Jessica Alba) notifies them there's an SOS being sent from the harmful other world (you are able to guess where in the title), Scorch heads off once again, against Gary's better advice, and eventually ends up caught inside a trap set by Shanker (James Gandolfini). Now it's Gary's use step-up and become the hero at least, searching in order to save everybody including wife Kira (Parker). Yup, seems like The Children Today have been in for an additional message about thinking in yourself, all ended in three dimensional eye chocolate. However the co-author/director is Cal Brunker, that has done the kind of Wretched Me and Horton Listens to a Who, so you will find there's a bit more hope. Still, time to evaluate is going to be when that one lands in movie theaters either the coming year or perhaps in 2013...

Tokyo cops clear 'Hangover II'
TOKYO -- Japanese censors have given a thumbs up to an unaltered version of "The Hangover Part II" that Warner Japan is screening at one Tokyo theater with an R18 rating. All other local prints of the pic digitally mask certain male genital shots in a Thai tranny bar -- and carry an R15 rating. Tokyo Metropolitan Police censors, who are in charge of monitoring "obscene content" under Japan's legal code, have given the shots a pass for the R18 print saying the aim is arouse laughs, not lust. The pic was released on nearly 130 screens on July 1, but acting on complaints about the nudity of the R18 version, the Tokyo police launched an investigation, but decided not to prosecute. The cops, however, did ask Warner to release only the R15 version on DVD. The decision may open the way to more relaxed local standards for on-screen nudity, which has long been an issue for censors and distribs. Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com
